The Supremes' appearance at the Copa in New York City was a smash. Their hours of rehearsals and trying the show out at the Rip-Tide paid off in a big way. Critics loved the show, and its success brought even more attention to the three busy entertainers.



During an interview that autumn, Diane announced that her name was now Diana Ross. Flo and Mary later claimed they had never heard about this, but she was referred to as “Diana” in the liner notes of the Supremes' first album. Flo and Mary continued to call her Diane, but to the public she was now officially Diana Ross.
