Tragedy and the Future

Aida

It had always been Elton's dream to write a musical. In 2000, the musical Aida opened on Broadway and created waves of excitement throughout the world. The musical is based on Verdi's famous opera, Aida, but it includes rock and roll as well. The music was recorded by a variety of artists, from Leann Rimes to Boyz II Men. The members of Boyz II Men had this to say about being asked to work with Elton on the sound track: “Our instant response was ‘Really?!’ The whole Elton John experience was really cool with us. Just the fact that somebody as respected as him believed in us—not only to sing the song, but also to produce it—was a privilege.”
