“Jailhouse Rock”

Jailhouse Rock

“Shake, Rattle and Roll,” a big hit for Bill Haley, was written by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller. They wrote many great songs, such as “Hound Dog,” “Love Potion No. 9,” “Stand by Me,” “Chapel of Love,” “Jailhouse Rock,” and “Treat Me Nice.” The Beatles were avid fans of Leiber and Stoller's songs.

Leiber and Stoller composed most of the sound track for Jailhouse Rock. Many people consider Jailhouse Rock Elvis's best movie. The film features Scotty Moore, Bill Black, and D.J. Fontana as Elvis's band, although the band broke up not long after Jailhouse Rock was released.

Elvis's 1957 single, “Teddy Bear,” vied for the top spot on the charts with Jerry Lee Lewis's “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On.” Fans sent thousands of teddy bears to Graceland. Elvis gave most of them to charity. He was active in many charities throughout his life.
