Elvis spent time with Dixie and continued to work for Crown Electric. There were also the rehearsals at Scotty's house. Vernon advised his son to keep his job at Crown Electric. Vernon thought guitar players were worthless.

Then Elvis was scheduled to appear at the Overton Park Show, opening up for the country singing star Slim Whitman. The crowd reacted wildly to Elvis's stage presence. Scotty Moore quit the Starlite Wranglers. Elvis quit Crown Electric and joined the musicians' union. The band hired Bob Neal as the group's manager.
