Tragedy and the Future

The Lion King

In 1993, Elton began to work with Disney Studios and Tim Rice on the score for an upcoming Disney movie called The Lion King. The film was a touching story about a young lion's struggle to grow and learn about the world. The story's main focus was on the relationship between father and son. Elton and Tim worked for months on the music, and finally came up with songs they loved. “Circle of Life” was their favorite.

In 1994, when the movie hit theaters, audiences everywhere loved it, in particular the movie's sound track. The album made it to number one on the U.S. charts, a rare accomplishment for a movie sound track.
